Maude Barlow joins fight against wind turbine construction in Chatham-Kent

Galloo Island is facing significant unresolved environmental questions because of the danger to endangered and rare bird and bat species. No matter how it’s spun, towers with blades reaching 800 feet into the heavens, where the blade tips are spinning at over 100 miles an hour (yes, that is correct) even in lower wind speeds, there is going to be significant bird and bat mortality. That problem is multiplied because the island is under a significant migratory flyway.

A Florida, Massachusetts resident died Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at his home. The resident was unable to leave the property he loved. Wind development destroyed his peace and tranquility.  His suicide should have been prevented if the DEP, BOH AG, governor, ... intervened to protect public health. He was tormented by the wind turbine demons: audible and inaudible (infra-sound).

Israeli Environment Ministry Recommends Scaling Down Wind Turbine Plans in Galilee

Three companies want more than 70 turbines to go up, but the ministry says residents’ ears, the landscape, birds and bats would suffer as a result; The ministry’s opinion relies on a paper by the companies themselves. The ministry says 13 of the turbines would be less than 500 meters from homes, which conflicts with the recommendations of both the environmental protection and health ministries because of the noise.

Huffman told commissioners the problems were worst when wind speeds were low, particularly between 6 metres per second and 10m per second. She backed the city council's position, that there should be an 8m per second threshold before the turbines kick in at night. She also said subjective assessment was a legitimate way to monitor noise.

Planned Mexico wind farm sparks protests

Some 500 people from Unión Hidalgo marched Saturday to protest the planned Gunaa Sicarú wind farm that firm Eléctricité de France (EDF) plans to build, according to local media reports. The coastal town and fishing community of Unión Hidalgo is inhabited by people of the indigenous Zapoteco ethnic group, who claim to not have been consulted about the planned project.

Residents said they feared the 500-foot tall turbines would adversely affect the aviation tradition on the lake, culminating every fall with the Greenville Fly-in. “There’s a lot at stake,” McDonald told the group. “The view and the wilderness experience. There’s a future at stake if you want to develop tourism in the area, the turbines pose a serious threat to the region.”
