Big Blue must submit noise data

Big Blue will now have to file a noise modeling of the installed wind turbines that indicates projected compliance with MPCA noise standards within 30 days of order, including monitoring during periods of curtailment; an on/off monitoring protocol within 60 days of order; and a completed on/off noise monitoring study within nine months of the order.

Wind turbine opposition continues at meetings

The trend for Cass County Commissioners meetings lately continued Monday with a packed room and criticism voiced toward a proposed wind turbine project in the northern part of the county. Dave Redweik, Twelve Mile, told commissioners that a petition calling for half-mile setbacks from property lines for industrial wind turbines is now up to 1,554 names.

Portland shows concern over wind turbines

PORTLAND — A five-wind-turbine proposal was presented to the Portland Town Board Monday afternoon with activists against the project voicing their concern. Those criticizing the project fear it will have similar impacts as the Arkwright wind project, however, this is the first-ever meeting between the wind turbine company and the town board and nothing was agreed upon.

Citizen groups say several large wind developments allowed to use older standards

A Notice of Application for Judicial Review was filed by DDOWT in the Divisional Court in Toronto on Tuesday against the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change alleging the ministry has allowed companies promoting at least five large-scale wind projects to ignore new government guidelines with respect to limiting the amount of noise any residence in the area should have to tolerate.

Michigan landowners’ long-shot lawsuit has high stakes for wind industry

“If someone got a judgment that windmills contributed to some adverse health effects people suffered, I would think that would be a pretty significant ruling,” said Ross Hammersley, a Traverse City attorney with Olson, Bzdok & Howard who specializes in environmental and real estate law. Hammersley, who is not involved in the case, reviewed some of the court filings for Midwest Energy News.

OSHA inspecting TPI Composites; GE 'closely monitoring' employee injuries

An employee complaint alleging exposure to chemicals and inadequate protective equipment has sparked a new OSHA investigation at TPI Composites, a wind blade manufacturer in Newton. Iowa Labor Commissioner Michael Mauro said OSHA inspectors have been inside the plant in recent days. The agency, which he oversees, has received at least one OSHA complaint since a Dec. 17 Des Moines Register investigation explored the working conditions at TPI.

Wind turbine health fears warrant study, says tribunal

“That is something which we expect will be the subject of further study,” the AAT said. “For our purposes, it is sufficient that annoyance is produced, and it ­appears that it may be associated with adverse health outcomes. “An identification of the ­causes of that annoyance may allow it to be reduced or mitigated and adverse health outcomes to be reduced or avoided.”

Residents rally against wind farm construction noise

The application was being sought to allow construction on the 34-wind turbine project in the former Chatham Township area to occur all night as well as on Sundays and holidays from Dec. 1 to March 31, 2018. ...Chatham-Kent's director of building services Paul Lacina said the request was denied to due to objections received from the public and inconsistency with the principles established by council within the bylaw.
