Lazard's latest energy cost report draws mixed opinions on implications

Jim Carson, principal at the RisQuant Energy consultancy in St. Paul, Minnesota, said he does not trust the LCOE numbers, saying, "They explicitly ignore 'integration costs,' reliability value and externalities." The location value of generation -- where it is located, relative to load -- is also excluded for consideration, Carson said. ..."In many places both the generation and related transmission improvement costs for renewables make them cost prohibitive."

ISO New England Issues Power System Plan for New England

New England currently has 1,300 MW of installed wind facilities, and about 5,400 MW more have been proposed as of April 2017. Most of the wind projects constructed or under consideration are in remote areas of the region where the wind conditions are good, but where the transmission network was built to serve low levels of area load and is currently at its performance limit.

Group sides with resort on turbines

“Our committee has become concerned that the planned wind farm development off the coast of Ocean City, as currently conceived, could have a serious, negative impact on Ocean Pines Association property owners, as well as a majority of county residents and businesses,” Wolf said. “Our apprehension is based on certain findings of a study by North Carolina State University regarding the impact of wind farms on coastal tourism.”

Hurrah, these turbines won’t be blowing in the wind

After more than 10 years of working on the project, RES Australia has formally announced the “discontinuation of Penshurst Wind Farm Project”. It “no longer considers this project to be an ongoing development opportunity”. So the people around Penshurst at least will now be able to — literally — sleep soundly at night.

Trump admin might finance massive wind project

The developers are also focused on keeping the White House engaged in the project. Without the federal government’s backing through WAPA, TransWest Express would lack the use of eminent domain, a major tool that Trump often relied on in his past life as a real estate mogul. It’s the ability to take ownership of private land for public use.

County willing to entertain partial tax abatement for Deer River Wind Farm

While Mr. Gray said he would like full taxation for the full assessment from developer Avangrid Renewables in a potential payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement for its Lewis County project’s transmission line, which will run through the town of Rodman, he said he would bring a proposal to the Legislature that would mirror the PILOT agreement for the Copenhagen Wind Farm.

House panel votes to eliminate RGGI energy-efficiency funds; Committee also supports lessening renewable energy standard

The NH House Science Technology and Energy Committee narrowly voted Tuesday to gut energy-efficiency funding through the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and roll back the state’s renewable energy standard, in a move that one Republic denounced as partisan and a Democrat called “nuts.”

Property owners raise concerns after meeting on R-Project

Hines and Harms both reiterated that Fish and Wildlife could only make recommendations to NPPD, but that ultimately it was NPPD that decided the route for the transmission line. “We suggested two alternate routes that would have minimal environmental impact,” Harms said. “NPPD came back and said those routes wouldn’t work because of the cost involved.”
