Federal Agency To Study Effects Of Electric Pulses From Proposed Wind Farm On Fish

The 400-page BOEM report on the effects of EMF on lobsters and skate itself acknowledges that very little is currently known about the effects of EMF at environmental levels on the migration habits of fish. Could even faint levels of EMF in the water column be enough to change the course of a fish’s migration? “If the fish can detect this stuff from 15 or 18 feet away, and it’s only 30 feet deep, they’re not going to swim up and over it,” Mr. Cobb said.

Wind blows a hold in Oklahoma Budget

If the state has been reimbursing county school districts for wind’s ad valorem taxes, then this has not expanded the total funds to school districts at all; it has just forced the state to transfer dollars from the General Revenue Fund that otherwise would have been earmarked for school districts across the state to those rural districts near wind facilities. Robbing Peter to pay Paul does nothing to help education.

Latest wind turbine project is a bad idea

Since the project is located on the California border and next to a major transmission line, the power generated there, if ever, is likely to flow into California to slake its legislatively mandated renewable energy portfolio of 50 percent renewables by 2030. All Nevada will get is the bird chopping eyesore.

Leaks stall turbines, Gloucester's wind income

Solaya’s Shah said his company has crews on the ground working to repair the leaks keeping at least one of the city’s turbines from fulfilling its purpose. The city is also budgeted to take in  $78,075 in in-lieu-of tax payments from Equity this year, within a few dollars of its payments for the last three years. But the electricity revenues have continued to fall short of the annual $450,000 projected by then-Mayor Carolyn Kirk and Equity officials when the turbines were installed in December late 2012.

Commission will open NextEra presentation to public comment

If the company proceeds with the project, based on information provided at a public open house in December, it appears most of it will be within the zoned portion of the county and thus require a conditional use permit. To obtain such a permit would require public hearings before the county planning board and commission.
