WOODWARD, Okla. — A wind turbine caught fire Tuesday morning near Woodward, Oklahoma.
Underwood said that because of the time it took to reach this agreement, the repairs would not be made until the Spring of 2018, making the roads un-plowable. Washington Township and the Engineers Office will be closing Washington Township 85, and portions of 22, and 115 within the next few weeks.
The smoke development was enormous; Cause was likely due to an electrical short. Two men were taken to a hospital by rescue helicopters.
The operator of several wind turbines near Georgia received a $7,500 fine for operating the turbines in 2016 during weather that could have led ice to form on the turbines’ blades. The turbines’ owner won’t contest the fine, a representative said.
The new language also gives a more formal definition for “adverse impact on military operations and readiness” to cover flight operations, research, development, testing, evaluation and training, and defines other terms related to the evaluation process.
One of the containers of the park of batteries of electricity storage on the site of Engie with Drogenbos caught fire on Saturday morning. While the fire was contained, the incident caused a release of toxic gas into the air. The municipality of Drogenbos asked residents to keep their windows and doors closed.
Campaigners say the turbine is too close to the road and the decision to allow it to be built there was taken by unelected officials against the objections of the local MP and Devon County Council.
An Antarctic research station is relying on diesel generators after a wind turbine collapsed overnight.
Among the recommendations in the 118-page report was for military officials to identify areas where wind turbines could pose a threat, to create a Regional Wind Energy Policy Steering Group to raise awareness of potential projects, to become an “Interested Party” on the state Siting Board and to coordinate with wind developers to create agreements supporting both new projects and military missions.
On Friday, the legislature made public its $110,000 contract with AECOM, a global engineering firm with an office in Morrisville, to chart the areas of the state where wind turbines could interfere with military bases. The study – which must be completed by next May – is part of an 18-month moratorium on wind farms enacted in July.
Speaking Tuesday, Lt. Gen. Lee Levy, commander of Air Force Sustainment Center, Air Force Materiel Command, Tinker, said wind turbines that rise hundreds of feet into the sky are encroaching on the flight corridors. Some of those turbines now are in the paths of low-flying planes, requiring the Air Force to abandon routes or take other evasive action.
One of seven wind turbines on the island of Pag, in Croatia, collapsed after high winds hit this Croatian island on Friday. So far, the exact cause of the turbine collapse is unknown, but it is assumed that one blade had broken first, which disturbed the balance of the construction, Croatian media reported.
DTE Energy's Sigel wind energy facility experienced another blade failure. Other blades have failed in recent years at the same project. The Sigel project is comprised of 40 GE 1.6-100 towers and was placed in service in October 2012.
Another blade break in Michigan.
CROATIA -- Zadar County is among the leaders in the production of electricity from renewable sources, mostly wind power plants. But they are now - one turbine less. At the first facility erected in Croatia, a wind turbine collapsed in the middle of a strong wind.
This aerial picture taken by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shows how hurricane-force winds shredded one of the Vestas turbines at the Punta de Lima project in Puerto Rico. The Punta de Lima Wind facility, developed by Gestamp Wind, began operation in April 2013 and includes 13 Vestas 1.8 megawatt turbines for a total capacity of 23.4 megawatts.
Adam Greene, site supervisor for Deerfield, suggested that the Tribune reach out to Vestas. "I have no idea what's going on at this time," he said. ...Two blades in separate turbines similarly broke last October.
An explosion was heard prior to the fire at the Dutch wind farm, Zeewolde, which is one of the country's largest; Two technicians were on the site when the accident happened.
Another turbine failure has been reported at Michigan's Deerfield wind facility in Huron County. The Deerfield project includes a mix of Vestas V110 2MW and 2.2MW machines for a total installed capacity of 150 MW. Two blades on separate turbines broke in half in late 2016 when the project was in the process of being commissioned. There was “an anomaly in the manufacturing process that resulted in a cavity in the blade shell support structure where the blades broke,” Vestas told reNEWS. Fifty blades in the 72-turbine facility shared the same flaw. No information is available on the cause of this recent failure.
Two technicians were injured when a windmill in Zeewolde they were working on caught fire on Wednesday afternoon. They sustained injuries on their hands, AD report.
