Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas says a worker was injured at the site of the 420MW Macarthur Wind Farm in Australia earlier today. "Our focus at this stage is to ensure that the injured worker receives swift and appropriate medical attention, which is already underway," says Vestas.
The defendants designed, tested, marketed and distributed the safety equipment he used while employed by Clipper Windpower Inc., as a repair worker, according to the lawsuit. Clipper Windpower was not named as a defendant in the suit.
"After a thorough investigation into training and safety practices and operating procedures used at the time of the accident and currently, the department concluded that no violations of employee training or safety standards were present."
Thousands of the giant wind machines violate a federal requirement to give technicians who work inside the towers enough maneuvering space to get up and down their ladders safely. The standard says the space near the ladder should be free of permanent obstructions that could cause serious head or back injuries if a climber slips or is moving fast.

A NextEra wind-turbine maintenance worker has been killed while working on a project in Iowa. Reports say he fell over 60 feet.
