County encourages state to pass laws on wind turbine projects

11-21-16-resolution_thumb The Cumberland County Commission approved a resolution Monday night to encourage the state of Tennessee government to pass legislation in regard to the impact of industrial wind turbines. Survey says: Wind energy is only issue that divides county

When asked what Huron County should pursue for alternative energy development, 42 percent of respondents agreed that wind is a viable option, and 40 percent disagreed, with 18 percent saying they were neutral. Wind energy development was second to crime/drug abuse as the top challenges that the county faces.

Vestas to lay off 350 at Lem blade factory

Danish wind OEM Vestas has confirmed it plans to lay off some 350 workers at its blade factory in Lem, Denmark by year-end. The company blamed high manufacturing costs and salary levels, "compared to the market level within manufacturing" for the redundancies.

Garner said it is not true that the turbines were not maintained. The reason the wind farm was decommissioned was there was no longer a customer for the electricity. The contract with the energy cooperative expired in 2012.

How wind and solar plan to thrive during the Trump presidency

The ITC and PTC that were agreed to at the end of 2015 and run through the early 2020s “are factored into the long-term growth of the solar and wind industries,” former Colorado Public Utilities Commission Chair Ron Binz, now president of Public Policy Consulting, told Utility Dive. A change to that 2015 agreement is one of the few ways the Trump administration could interrupt the growth of wind and solar.

Lake Land board votes to remove north wind turbine

The Lake Land Board of Trustees voted Monday evening to authorize removing the north wind turbine near the West Building. In addition, the board authorized removing the blades from the nearby south turbine so this unit can continue to be utilized for educational purposes for Lake Land students. This project would cost Lake Land an estimated $30,000.

Perquimans denies wind permit

Perquimans County commissioners have rejected a proposed $300 million wind farm, voting 3-2 Monday night to deny the project a conditional use permit. A majority of the board’s five members favored the project, but three individually had problems with at least some aspect of Apex Clean Energy’s Timbermill Wind proposal.

ISO-NE capacity requirement shows flat demand, more solar

The RTO’s filing said five renewable energy projects in northern Maine, a landfill gas facility, a wind farm and three hydropower projects, totaling more than 22 MW, were disqualified because of insufficient transmission capacity. The Orrington interface in eastern Maine, critical to unlocking wind energy potential from the northeastern areas of the state, is the subject of a study now underway by ISO-NE planners. Ohio lawmaker pushes for stricter rules on wind development

“If wind farms cannot be developed without borrowing or stealing their neighbors’ nonresidential property in order to satisfy the setback, health, and safety requirements, then perhaps they should not be developed at all,” state Sen. Bill Seitz (R-Cincinnati) asserted in comments filed on October 31 with the Ohio Power Siting Board, of which Seitz is a non-voting member.
