Conneaut wind turbine facing uncertain future

 A wind turbine severely damaged by lightning late last month is facing an uncertain future on Conneaut’s lakefront. At Monday’s City Council meeting, City Manager James Hockaday said the turbine’s owner, NexGen Energy, wants a long-term renewal of its contract with the city before it will proceed with repairs.

Bird groups sue to stop Lake Erie wind project

Two leading bird conservation groups, American Bird Conservancy (ABC) and Black Swamp Bird Observatory (BSBO), have filed a lawsuit against the Ohio Air National Guard (ANG) over its plans to build and operate a wind turbine at its Camp Perry facility.

GVEA denies wind farm request

Golden Valley Electric Association officials said the electric co-op has denied a request for interconnection from Delta Wind Farm which proposed construction of a 13.5 megawatt wind farm in the Delta Junction area. GVEA officials said the proposal was rejected because an additional wind farm would be a greater expense to the co-op and its customers.

Conflict of interest wind blows both ways

For a number of years, five of nine Huron County planning commissioners had wind contracts, said Robert McLean, vice chair of the Paris Township Planning Commission. He was a member of the former Huron County Wind Energy Zoning Committee, and is running for a seat on the county planning commission. “The fox was guarding the hen house way back when,” McLean told the Tribune recently.

Somerset planners OK wind power developer's request for towers

One of the key factors in Furlong's ruling was that the Planning Board approved a previous Apex weather tower on Lower Lake Road in 2014. The judge also ruled that the two new towers – each proposed to be 197 feet high, on Lake and West Somerset roads – wouldn't produce enough impact to justify making the company complete one of the state's long environmental impact forms.

At Tuesday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting, it was announced that EDP had withdrawn a financial commitment — a bond — for a meteorological tower in Alexandria, which was planned to help the company decide if it should continue with the project, company officials said.

Board wants Antrim Wind to pay $100K

ANTRIM NH -- Antrim select board members agreed to ask Antrim Wind Energy for a one-time payment of $100,000 to recover any legal and administrative costs it has spent since the inception of a nine turbine wind project slated to be built on Tuttle Hill and Willard Mountain during a meeting on Monday night.

The study, published in a recent edition of the Journal of Environmental Policy and Planning, notes that fast-paced development and limits on local decision-making has resulted in strong opposition to wind projects. Those objections can be mitigated by the fair distribution and amount of area benefits, the authors write.
