Wind turbine sparks grass fire

A malfunctioning wind turbine sparked a grass fire near Arlington that burned about 2,000 acres on Thursday. Wind turbine caught on fire in Arlington

A defective GE 2.5MW wind turbine erupted in flames at the Caithness Shepherds Flat wind energy facility causing fire to spread to more than a thousand acres of brush. The failed turbine was located at Rhea Road and Highway 19 just East of Arlington, Oregon in Gilliam County. Massive Ontario forest fire sparked by wind farm construction during extreme fire ban, workers allege

Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is investigating whether construction crews building a major wind-turbine project on the eastern shores of Georgian Bay amidst tinder-dry conditions caused a forest fire that is now devouring more than 5,600 hectares of land. ..."They were still blasting every day, sometimes two or three shots a day," one worker said, despite the extreme fire-hazard conditions. "We've had fires start off beside blasting mats, but it still went on every day.

Jenne criticizes Republican senators for not supporting bill limiting wind turbines near Drum — senators disagree

Rep. Reineke flips on setbacks

“Based on my continued engagement with the constituents, I have come to the conclusion that no changes should be made to Ohio’s current wind turbine setbacks. Under current law, the setbacks can be reduced if ‘good neighbor’ waivers are reached with affected landowners in the project footprint. Property rights are key and landowners on both sides of this issue have valid arguments. In pursuit of a compromise, it is unfair for one set of landowners to completely win this debate, and property rights should never be subject to a vote.”

Regular refresher training could prevent wind farm fatalities

Wind turbine technicians are at risk of fatal accidents or serious injury without regular refresher training, according to a study by researchers at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU). Wind technicians struggle to recall key emergency steps within a month of their initial training and need regular practice to maintain their skill level, research has found.
