The public addresses regulators over Public Service Co. of Oklahoma's wind farm plan

Nearly every seat was filled Thursday at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission's main courtroom as the agency took public comment on a cause filed by Public Service Co. of Oklahoma. The utility seeks preapproval to recover its costs associated to a large wind power and transmission project that will provide renewable energy to both its customers and those of a sister utility.

Wind turbine in France collapses

France-1_thumb The failed turbine appears to be one of eight placed online in Bouin, France in June 2003. The Nordex N80/2500kw turbines are 2.5 MW each for a total project capacity of 20 MW. The project is owned by SIIF Energies France (EDF subsidiary for renewable energy projects) and REVe (Régie d’Eletricité de Vendée).

Environmentalists blast TVA for killing major wind project

The nation's biggest wind generator, NextEra Energy Resources, has bought the Oklahoma portion of the proposed 700-mile-long Plains and Eastern Line to serve Oklahoma and Midwest customers. But for now, plans to bring wind energy from the windy areas of Oklahoma and Texas into the less-windy Tennessee Valley and Southeastern part of the United States are stalled and unlikely to be resurrected for years.

Long-awaited Deerfield Wind turbines go online

“This is a sad day for many Vermonters and people who care about wildlife and value the importance of wilderness,” said Annette Smith, executive director of Vermonters for a Clean Environment, which mounted a court challenge over impacts on the nearby George D. Aiken Wilderness Area. Smith and other opponents of commercial-size wind projects also protested the Deerfield Wind groundbreaking ceremony in September 2016.

Voters turn down wind energy development

After residents and officials spent several years debating whether or not wind turbines are good for the county, voters turned down additional development in Sherman, Sigel, Sand Beach, Lincoln, Dwight and Bloomfield townships in May. The referendums for wind energy overlay zones proposed by NextEra Energy Resources and DTE Energy failed in county-zoned municipalities by a 2 to 1 margin.

Studies explore wind turbines and noise, sleep, health, annoyance and safety

Are wind turbines bad for you? Do they keep people up at night? Are they annoying? Do they negatively impact health? Are they dangerous? These questions are on Cass County residents’ minds as a company prepares to bring as many as 150 wind turbines to Adams, Bethlehem, Boone and Harrison townships in the northern part of the county along with neighboring Miami County.
