Green energy or bird choppers? Lake Erie wind farm needs closer look

This is the first Lake Erie wind turbine project that has been recommended for approval by the OPSB. They have placed some “conditions” on their approval of the project, but if those conditions are met with studies that lack transparency, or are built on flimsy science, or by cherry-picking numbers and portions of studies that push a favorable breeze on this wind farm, we all lose.

LEEDCo wind project OK'd, but must show plan it will not harm birds and bats to operate at night

The Ohio Power Siting Board has recommended conditional approval of the $126 million Icebreaker six-turbine wind turbine project proposed by the Lake Erie Energy Development Corp. 8 to 10 miles northwest of downtown. But the staff has included more than 34 conditions. The six-turbine wind farm is expected to look similar to this offshore wind farm near Block Island in the Atlantic Ocean.

Doug Ford ends cap and trade in Ontario

“Cap-and-trade and carbon tax schemes are no more than government cash grabs that do nothing for the environment while hitting people in the wallet in order to fund big government programs,” Ford said in a statement Tuesday. “I promised that the party with taxpayers’ dollars was over and that this would include scrapping the cap-and-trade, carbon tax slush fund.”

R.I. squid fishermen fear wind power

Rhode Island fishermen say a patch of the Atlantic Ocean south of Martha’s Vineyard is among the best places around to catch squid. They are also the same waters in which a developer selected by Massachusetts plans to install up to 100 giant wind turbines that would supply clean, renewable energy to the state.
