Council Backs Wind Plans

Residents' opposition to plans for more wind turbines at Parc Cynog windfarm near Pendine is growing stronger with two petitions now being lodged. But despite strong local feeling against plans by Nuon Renewables to add six turbines to the site, Llanddowror Community Council voted by three votes to two with three abstentions to support the application currently awaiting consideration by Carmarthenshire Council.

Wind power is described as 'clean and cost effective energy', but it's not without its concerns. The Coastal Bend Bays Foundation hosted a forum to allow company officials to meet with the public.

Get serious about wind

And we would still need the same amount of generating power from other plants (which would be run less efficiently, i.e., with more emissions) to keep the system running when the wind isn't perfect. With this pathetic outlook, and considering as well the fact that electricity is only a fraction of our energy use, wind looks about as far from a "serious" solution to global warming or decommissioning nuclear plants as one could get.

Contract for largest windmill powers wind energy

BEIJING, March 14 -- Shanghai Electric Power Generation Group has been awarded a clean energy contract by German-based Aerodyn Energiesysteme GmbH to jointly develop the largest windmill in China, in a move to boost the use of wind energy to try and resolve the country's soaring power demand.

NREL, GE Energy Partner for Next-Gen Offshore Wind Turbines

And with the turbines expected in the 5-7 MW range, these could be the largest turbines ever built.

Rejecting wind project is for 'general good'

There is room for wind power in Vermont's energy mix, but it must be in harmony with other key environmental concerns, such as protecting the state's ridgelines from industrial development.

Windfarm is Inefficient

Figures from Ofgem for Cefn Croes, from March to September 2005, say the 39 wind turbines gave an overall output of 14 megawatts. The grounds given for planning approval said output would be bigger than 50 megawatts.
