The Farmersville Town Board has cancelled a public hearing on its proposed wind turbine law set for Monday night because the Cattaraugus County Planning Board has not reviewed the plan. Additionally, Cattaraugus County lawmakers are waiting to see how their proposed resolution blocking large-scale wind energy projects will be received.

New wind ordinance draft components passed, others still in flux

The committee passed a mandatory setback of 1½ miles from municipal limits, while leaving a 1½- to 3-mile setback window at the discretion of city officials, which was endorsed by DeKalb Mayor Jerry Smith and Sycamore Mayor Curt Lang, who also attended the meeting. Committee members also passed a 1½-mile setback from forest preserves and amended a previously passed component about tower decommissioning.

Panel recommends more than doubling setbacks for wind turbines

The Ford County Board’s zoning committee finalized a package of proposed changes to the county’s ordinance regulating wind farms Tuesday morning, including a proposal to more than double the distance that wind turbines must be from homes. ...The committee re-voted on the proposed ordinance to include a setback of 2,250 feet from primary structures, or four times a turbine’s tip height, whichever is greater. The amended proposal was approved unanimously.

Greenwood voters to decide wind issue Monday

Many property owners have expressed concern about what they say are possible negative effects of wind turbines in areas such as noise, health, scenic resources, wildlife and property values. One new ordinance provision – the height restriction on turbine towers – would effectively ban commercial wind projects, according to town officials.

On Friday, American Electric Power and its subsidiary Public Service Company of Oklahoma announced that they have cancelled the Wind Catcher wind power project after a failed vote in Texas delivered a fatal blow. ...“So it’s over? It’s done? That is so wonderful. That’s excellent,” resident Marta Koenig said upon hearing the news. She learned that the line might cross her property and had attended the court hearing to learn what she could, even though she had learned that the line might not cross her property after all.

Referendum on wind fails to make deadline

A Hazelton Township resident who was collecting petition signatures in an effort to overturn Shiawassee County’s new rules on wind turbines failed to submit a completed petition by Tuesday’s deadline, according to the county clerk. ...Commissioners approved an amendment to the county zoning ordinance last month that made the rules regarding wind turbines more strict.

Planning board rejects height increase for windmills

At the Chautauqua County Planning Board meeting on July 11, the board decided to table their decision regarding a proposed amendment to the Ball Hill Wind Energy Project in the towns of Hanover and Villenova. On Monday night, the board took it up again and voted 6-3 to disapprove the amended application, which includes an increase in maximum wind turbine height and other changes to the wind parks project.

With wind farm expansion proposed, Campbell County mulls planning, zoning ordinances

A proposed wind farm expansion in Campbell County has prompted local officials to consider adopting temporary planning and zoning controls. A “large delegation” of residents voiced their concerns over the proposed 39-turbine expansion of the existing 55-turbine wind farm owned by ConEdison, according to the July 6 Campbell County Commission meeting minutes.
