LOS ANGELES The Los Angeles City Council has signed off on a 16-year contract to buy energy from a wind farm in Wyoming.
WASHINGTON -- Federal officials vowed this week to boost renewable energy production on federal lands in the West, but wind and geothermal industry officials criticized the administration for a lack of openness and support leading to delays in some of their projects.
RAWLINS -- An Oregon company is proposing to install up to 125 wind turbines on private land northwest of Medicine Bow.
Energy corridors should enhance markets for both fossil-based energy as well as wind and other renewables, as the federal government prepares for a wave of electrical transmission and pipeline construction across the West.
Natrona County commissioners, on a 2-2 tie, on Wednesday defeated a request by Chevron-Texaco to erect three wind-data monitoring towers with the concern that the company eventually wants to erect as many as 20 240-foot tall turbines. This is not the proper place for this," commissioner Kathleen Dixon said before casting her "no" vote. "I will not let the nose of the camel into the tent."
Wyoming energy officials hope a proposed contract for the city of Los Angeles to buy 82 megawatts of Wyoming wind power represents a trend across the West.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Seven utilities have announced formation of a partnership to advance the Frontier Line, an electric-power transmission grid that would serve Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and California.
CHEYENNE -- Wyoming and California have joined ranks in promoting Wyoming for a federally backed initiative to build the cleanest coal-powered electric generating plant.
CASPER -- Because the stability of the U.S. economy relies on the nation's ability to meet increasing energy demand, planners likely won't have to choose between fossil fuels and renewable energy.
GILLETTE -- Wyoming energy officials hope that recent action by the Idaho Legislature to place a two-year moratorium on new construction of coal-burning power plants will work in Wyoming's favor.
GREEN RIVER -- Sweetwater County sits atop some of the nation's largest natural gas reserves, about a third of the world's natural soda ash supply and ample reserves of coal and oil. But not all of the county's untapped energy resources lie underground. County officials say a lot of it passes right over head on those blustery, windy Wyoming days
Wind farms, wind parks or wind conversion -- no matter what it's called, Sweetwater County has to learn how to deal with it.
“The county has to have something to stand on. A wind farm on White Mountain is going to be a very controversial issue,” he said
The new turbines are more efficient and less costly than propeller-driven machines and earlier versions of TMA's own mills, officials say.
