R.I. fishermen, Vineyard Wind reach deal on compensation

In a unanimous vote at the special meeting, the Fishermen’s Advisory Board accepted the new offer that includes $4.2 million in payments over 30 years for direct impacts to commercial fishermen from Vineyard Wind’s 84-turbine wind farm proposed in Rhode Island Sound, as well as the creation of a $12.5-million trust set up over five years that could be used to cover additional costs to fishermen resulting from the project.

More than 150 filled a meeting room at North Branch Wesleyan Church Tuesday (Feb. 19) night to hear the other side of the wind energy debate. Last month the North Branch Township Hall meeting room was standing room only for a presentation by three wind energy experts invited in by township supervisor Gary Swoish.

El Nino's taking the wind out of sales of U.S. power generators

Unusually still weather in the upper Midwest and Great Plains in late 2018 has already taken a bite out of earnings at NextEra Energy Inc. and Avangrid Inc., which both operate large wind farms. Other wind generators have yet to report fourth-quarter results, including Pattern Energy Group Inc., TerraForm Power Inc. and Clearway Energy Inc.

Landowners testify in wind farm lease case

The complaint filed in Seneca County Common Pleas Court states that each defendant refused to allow Seneca Wind access to their properties and that Seneca Wind needs to access the properties to analyze, plan and construct the project and to provide key information to Ohio Power Siting Board as it considers the application.

Summit Ridge Wind Farm: Extension request and comments

Comments_on_summit_ridge_wind_farm_amendment_4_thumb The Summit Ridge Wind Farm was granted a site certificate by the Oregon Energy Facility Siting Council (EFSC or Council) on August 19, 2011. The applicant now seeks a 4th amendment to the certificate that extends the start construction timeline another two years. A host of objections have been raised about the project. Keeping their eye on the Sky: Residents bring questions and concerns to Q&A on wind farm project in Lee and Bureau counties

Area residents recently weighed in on the proposed project to decommission and repower the Big Sky Wind Farm in Lee and Bureau counties. The 240-megawatt wind farm was built in 2010 and went online in 2011 with 114 turbines stretching across roughly 14,000 acres, with 58 in southern Lee County and 56 in Bureau County near Ohio.

Fate of Seneca County wind farm project still in question after hearing

Retired Wood County Common Pleas Judge Robert Pollex, assigned by the Ohio Supreme Court to preside over the case, told attorneys after the final witness testified that he would give them until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to submit their final briefs. The judge is being asked by sPower to issue an order granting immediate access to 31 tracts of land in which a different would-be developer negotiated leases from the 30 property owners more than a decade ago.

Gone with the wind: Apex Clean Energy opts not to pursue proposed turbine project

For the second time in less than a year, a developer has pulled the plug on its plan to site wind turbines in the north country. ...Residents need to know the positive difference they make when they object to wind projects. The fact that two firms have abandoned their proposals in Northern New York within the past eight months should encourage them to keep up the struggle.

Vineyard Wind project in RI moves forward

Rich Fuka, spokesperson for the Rhode Island Fishermen's Alliance, when asked how to balance out the need for renewable energy versus the needs of the fishing industry in Rhode Island, responded by saying, "That's my favorite question. You let the real players, real stakeholders, sit at the table and say, “Look, here's what we have for a fishing industry. Can you move those windmills out further across from the squid stocks?' The answer is: it's not cost effective."

Local residents go public with Ball Hill Wind concerns

Between 50 and 60 members of the public turned out on Wednesday for the hearing in the Silver Creek Central School auditorium, and approximately a dozen voiced their concerns about health and safety impacts, alleged inappropriate actions of the Villenova Town Board and effectiveness of the proposed project.
