Douglass Township supervisor: ‘This township will not end up in court’ over wind ordinance

“I’m here today because I would like to see your community avoid the devastating effects of wind farm development,” said Stevens who became emotional as he spoke. He read a lengthy statement, portions of which he had also previously emailed the Daily News. ...“But the greatest loss is the community and the sense of a better future,” Stevens wrote. “The community-wide hard feelings are thick enough to cut with a chainsaw. I have former friends and relatives I will never speak to again. No one will volunteer for town, school or church events because they wish to avoid uncomfortable interactions. If you ask township officials, they will say everything is great. They don’t want to admit they burned down the town with their greed and ignorance and corruption.”

Morro Bay wind farm is the new bullet train to nowhere

News outlets breathlessly reported the great news that California and the feds will build a 399 square mile floating wind farm to generate electricity. The farm will be located 17 to 40 miles offshore west and north of Morro Bay, and will generate a whopping 3 Giga Watts (3 GWh) of power – enough to power a million homes. ...this is just another big sack of steaming, stinking, rotting BS that politicians hope to sell to Californians.

Wrongful death lawsuit filed after man dies from fall at a wind trbine

“The subject matter of the anticipated suit includes gross negligence and various subcategories of negligence.” Sentry is said to have failed to provide a "first aid station, an infirmary, or other medical services for the treatment of injured employees and – in a serious violation of safety protocols – also failed to have a person with first-aid training readily available at the work site to render first aid.”

County weighing Rail Tie permit application

After five hours of sometimes heated testimony regarding the proposed Rail Tie Wind Project, the Albany County Board of Commissioners closed the public hearing Tuesday night without making a decision. The commission now has 45 days to approve or deny ConnectGen’s application for a county permit to build a 500-megawatt wind project on 26,000 acres of public and private land near Tie Siding.

Chinese wind farm project in Texas a threat to national security: Kyle Bass

Spurred by these security concerns, the Texas Legislature recently unanimously passed legislation that would ban individuals or companies connected with China, Iran, North Korea, or Russia from entering into contracts relating to the state’s critical infrastructure. The bill has been sent to the governor for signature. If it is signed, it will take effect immediately. The country’s critical infrastructure has been the target of several cyberattacks in recent months.

Company adjusts plans for wind farm in Botetourt County

Opponents have said the giant turbines would be an eyesore, make too much noise, generate shadow flicker and pose a threat to a scenic, mountainous area and its wildlife. A lawsuit filed last year seeks to stop the project by challenging a permit issued by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The state has asked that the case be dismissed; an Aug. 20 hearing is scheduled in Botetourt County Circuit Court.

Bill allows county commissioners to kill wind, solar projects

Sen. Bill Reineke (R., Tiffin), who sponsored the bill with Sen. Rob McColley (R., Napoleon), dismissed arguments that there is already local input in the decisions of the five-member Ohio Power Siting Board as to where such projects would be located. “I'm telling you that in Seneca County, my home county, we now have four to six projects in the queue,” Mr. Reineke said. “When you consider all the letters, the testimonies, the resolutions against these projects that have come from constituents, township trustees, commissioners, mayors, etc., it becomes clear that the current process has no regard for local input.

RI coastal regulators back South Fork Wind Farm, over objections from fishermen

“If the council certifies the project as consistent, it will make a mockery of the process,” Michael Jarbeau, baykeeper with the environmental group, said before the council vote. “This might be the correct project, but it is certainly not the correct location.”  He quoted from an analysis from the council’s own staff that described the project site as “one of the worst possible locations within Rhode Island Sound” for the wind farm. “We agree,” Jarbeau said. “While we understand there are risks of habitat loss to meet wind energy goals, this project will disrupt some of the most valuable habitat in Rhode Island Sound.”

Supervisors ease citizens concerns over future solar farms with ‘wait and see’ approach to growing industry

Developers coming into the county do not have the residents best interest in mind. They have only one thing in mind — profits. Our county leaders need look no further back than the first few years of Battle Creek Landfill’s operations to learn that lesson. Let’s hope history doesn’t repeat itself. If it does, Page County taxpayers may once again spend decades paying off prior mistakes that were touted to bring great financial prosperity to our rural county.

South Fork Wind Farm to reduce turbines but fishing group has 'serious concerns'

But the Fishermen's Advisory Board in Rhode Island is opposing the package, according to a report in the Providence Journal. A lawyer for the group, Marisa Desautel, said the group has "serious concerns with the lack of information provided by Orsted" about the mitigation fund, including Orsted's involvement in how it will be paid out. The compensation package, to be paid over 30 years (or reduced to $5.2 million if taken as an upfront payment), was below a scientific study that estimated potential losses to fishermen of $15 million to $40.4 million, according to the paper.

FSF statement on appeals court ruling in New York wind farm case

Fsf_v_debra_haaland_doi_boem_leases_suit20-5094-20-5094dst_thumb The court ruled that because BOEM doesn't technically commit to anything at the lease stage, it is too early to challenge the siting of the wind farm under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The decision means that affected parties cannot challenge a lease location under NEPA until BOEM approves a Construction and Operations Plan (COP) for the wind farm. However, that is very late in the process, and changing the lease location at such a late date would be exceedingly difficult.

Fighting for fishing grounds in face of wind farms

Beyond the benefits of clean energy and conservation, developers say the project also will create 3,658 full-time jobs in Massachusetts between 2019 and 2047. Sanfilippo is suspicious of the job claims. "Nowhere have they said how many people, how many fishermen, they're going to displace," she said. "It's like we don't exist and the fishing grounds don't exist."
