Why we sued Logan County

On June 16, 2020, the Logan County Commissioners gave the Niyol Wind Project a green light by approving its conditional use permit application. Concerned Citizens for a Safe Logan County, Inc, has, from the outset, sought collaboration and compromise in order to guide wind development that will work for everyone. We were repeatedly and condescendingly rebuffed in our efforts and we fear the residents of future wind project sites will face a similar fate.

Blackouts lay bare problems in transition to clean energy

“We have a much more risky supply of energy now because the sun doesn’t always shine when we want and the wind doesn’t always blow when we want,” said Frank Wolak, a Stanford University economics professor who specializes in energy markets. “We need more tools to manage that risk. We need more insurance against the supply shortfalls.” But the problems made Newsom see red.

Wind turbine blades in coal mine pits? There's a new law in Wyoming to allow it.

The blades, which typically make up about 10% of a wind turbine’s total material, are made of fiberglass. Fiberglass is a tricky material that can’t be recycled or easily repurposed. And as utility companies look to replace aging wind turbines, the machines’ blades are being buried in stacks at a handful of landfills around the country, including in the Casper Regional Landfill.

Renewable energy is not all green

“There is more to be told that the state energy policy makers would rather not be known. The article makes renewable energy look far better than it is. How, can hydropower, the only reliable and true renewable resource, be included in the percentage calculations of renewable generation? Wind is less than 2% at best, solar is about the same. So 17-18% of generated renewable power was hydro and only 1-2% from solar or wind. Also, solar and wind power cost five to six times more than hydro or nuclear or hydrocarbon power.

Energy company looking at potential 50,000 acre wind farm project in 11 Montcalm County townships

“We’re currently looking at about 11 different townships in Montcalm County, including Sidney,” he said. “We don’t know who’s going to be interested in signing a lease or who’s not. There’s likely to be upwards of 50,000 acres signed into this property. Probably several hundred landowners and their families will be participating.
