Wind farm worker killed inside Iowa wind turbine

A NextEra wind-turbine maintenance worker has been killed while working on a project in Iowa. According to a statement released by the local sheriffs office, the worker fell while inside the tower of the Clipper Windpower 2.5MW Liberty turbine located at the Endeavor wind centre. Reports say he fell over 60 feet.

Bellevue teen killed by fall from wind turbine

A Bellevue teen died after an apparent fall from a wind turbine, family and friends say, but police have yet to confirm what happened. Bellevue police officials said only that they are investigating the death of Ernesto "Ernie" Garcia, 17, who died early Monday at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

Fatal collision with met tower

Ntsb_fatal_with_mettower_thumb On January 10, 2011, at 10:57 PST, a Rockwell International S-2R, impacted a meteorological tower (met tower) during an aerial application on Webb Tract Island, Oakley, California. The airplane sustained substantial damage and the pilot was killed. The met tower was erected for the purposes of planning a wind energy facility.

A worker hurt during an East County wind-farm accident Monday remained hospitalized Tuesday, while a colleague was expected to go home, company officials said. The two were working around noon Monday in the nacelle, or hub, of a wind turbine on the Campo Indian Reservation when a piece of electrical equipment sent off a giant spark.

A North Dakota based construction company is facing three proposed penalties following a deadly Iowa wind farm accident last October. ..."The employer did not ensure the all terrain fork truck operators were competent and capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards." IOSHA claims Wanzek "did not instruct each employee in the recognition and avoidance of unsafe conditions and the regulations.

Worker burned atop wind turbine

The worker is an employee of Vestas, a wind turbine manufacturer. A spokesman with that company said the incident was under investigation and details would be provided when they became available. Olavarria said the worker was outside the turbine in front of its nose when the explosion and fire occurred. It's not clear what caused the explosion or what burned, but the turbines do have lubricating oil inside, she said.

3 workers injured in wind farm fire

An explosion and fire at a wind farm under construction in northeast Nebraska has injured three workers. One man, who was atop a tower when a turbine exploded, received first- and second-degree burns in the fire Tuesday morning. Two others, who were nearby, were treated for smoke inhalation and released.

Fatal accident points out transport challenge

A broadside accident occurred Wednesday in St. Cloud between an oversized-load truck carrying wind turbine parts and a minivan, resulting in one death. Millard and Shirlee Nelson of South Haven were heading north at the intersection of Highway 15 and Second Street about to turn left. ...The number-one thing MnDOT can do in wind turbine transportation is ensure the public's safety on the roads, Coulianos said. Coulianos also said for the three and a half years he's worked for MnDOT, this is the first fatality he's known involving transportation of wind turbines. "This is what we plan not to happen," Coulianos said. "This is very serious to us."
