Lawsuit filed to halt DeWitt County wind farm

A lawsuit opposing development of an industrial wind complex in northwest DeWitt County has been filed on behalf of 69 constituents against the DeWitt County Board and Enel Energy, owner of Alta Farms II. “This was something we wanted to avoid, but at this point, we have no choice,” said Olivia Klemm, one of the opponents of the wind farm. “We are not done fighting.”

Mitsubishi eyes Great Lakes for offshore wind development

Wissemann said future Great Lakes projects will look more like those shaping up along the Atlantic Coast: larger and more competitive on cost. Winter ice endemic to the Great Lakes is not an engineering challenge for turbines affixed to the seabed, and there’s no need to demonstrate any particular technology for freshwater projects to advance, he said. “I think you can go bigger, faster in the Great Lakes.”

Senecas mobilize rally against Horseshoe Solar

Since the land is technically outside of the current reservation’s jurisdiction, this legal contention creates challenges for preserving their ancestors’ memories. “We’re kind of helpless because it’s off the reservation, but then this technically should be our land along with the other reservations based on the treaty rights,” he claimed. Within the earth that comprises of the Canawaugus territory, it bears great significance to the Seneca Nation.

German company leases 12,000 acres for planned wind farm near Harrisburg

RWE could technically apply to rezone the land it has leased from agricultural to light industrial use. Florea said that would put more of a burden on RWE to get public input from local landowners than waiting for the county to develop rules. Since there’s no specific language in Boone County ordinances about wind turbines, he added, qualifying them as light industrial would be a “judgment call” based on similar land uses in that category.

Would-be developer wants zoning change overruled

In March, Stonebridge applied for building permits to start construction. The planning and zoning department denied building permits because zoning administrator Sharon Omstead deemed the applications insufficient. The county implemented a sunset clause in 2018 that terminated previously-approved conditional use permits on if the company did not apply for construction permits by April 1.

Wind farm opponents blast town for 'selling out' Wainscott

In a strongly worded message issued last week, Citizens for the Preservation of Wainscott, a group that is fighting South Fork Wind farm's plan to land its export cable at Beach Lane in that hamlet, accused both the East Hampton Town Board and the town trustees of a "duplicitous sell-out" of Wainscott, and pledged to contest the proposed wind farm "through litigation and all other means."

Facts don’t support putting wind turbines on our lakes

The assertion that public voices will still be heard under Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s new Office of Renewable Energy Siting is not accurate. The very point in establishing this new agency was to make sure his renewable policy is advanced despite opposition from the public and affected municipalities. Voices may be heard, but the outcome will be predetermined.

Industrial wind farms a horrible nuisance

When you count the cost of losing our peace in our homes, loss of property values, harm to our wildlife, harm to the land and agricultural businesses, the price of decommissioning the turbines once they are outdated and need to be torn down, and the loss of community relationships — you realize that the total cost of wind turbines has been and will continue to be staggering.
