A wind turbine in Germany burned for hours because fire fighters did not have ladders long enough to tackle the 100 metre high blaze. The flames struck this morning in the town of Isselburg in North Rhine-Westphalia.

A wind turbine was destroyed by fire near Magdeburg in Germany. The fire was likely caused by hurricane-strength winds, which blew against the rotor blades resulting in the generator becoming overheated. Members of the fire department could not get close to the burning structure due to falling parts. The damage is estimated to be 1.2 million euros.
