“While wind farms can make an important contribution to reducing greenhouse gasses, so do peat lands. When we build a wind farm on peat land it is self-defeating in terms of the environment. The site is within a 6 mile distance of nesting birds of prey and adjacent to the Water of Dye which is included in the river Dee Special Area of conservation.

Burning wind turbine in Rhede (Germany)

A police spokesman reported that the fire initially broke out in the nacelle at around 3 o'clock on Friday morning and spread to the entire turbine. One blade of the wind turbine fell off after a short time while large parts of a second blade followed. Although the third blade did not burn, it threatened to fall after the nacelle was largely destroyed.

Endangered Hen Harrier on Donegal wind farm site should have been verified

The Irish Raptor Study Group has been granted permission to bring judicial review proceedings challenging a decision of An Bord Pleanála to grant planning permission for a 19-turbine wind farm located at Meenbog in South Eastern Donegal. ...They claimed that while the developer in its application did not identify the presence of breeding Hen Harrier on the wind farm site IRSG volunteers had identified two pairs of breeding Hen Harrier in the same area.
