Ten CEOs push for EU energy policy to change direction: Dramatically reduce green energy subsidies

This press conference was held by the CEOs for ten of the European Union's largest utilities. The CEOs, who call themselves the Magritte Group, said EU energy and environment policy is failing in its objectives and had raised the risk of the lights going out. One of the wishes expressed during the press conference was the drastic reduction in subsidies for mature renewable technologies including wind and solar, and to concentrate the subsidies on research and development for technologies of the future. Gérard Mestrallet, CEO of GDF Suez, is featured in this video.

Energy giants urge end to subsidies for 'green' power

The senior executives from ten utilities in Europe have recommended that the end subsidies for renewable energy if it wants to regain its competitiveness. The companies argue subsidies for solar and wind energy are driving up prices for consumers and market distorting. E.ON CEO Johannes Teyssen said that " renewable " subsidies are reaching a level which is totally unbearable. This industry is the biggest kid on the block now, not a child any longer."

German ecologists decry wind turbines

Germany's government set out to abandon nuclear power and switch to renewable energy. In order to triple generating capacity of green energy, hundreds of additional wind turbines are being installed in Southern Germany, but environmentalists are still unhappy. The noise of wind turbines - Scotland

Instances of excessive noise of wind turbines at a family home located 950 meters from the Hadyard Hill Wind Power Plant. The Hadyard Hill wind facility is located in the Carrick district of South Ayrshire in Scotland. The project was commissioned in March 2006 and consists of fifty-two 2.3 megawatt wind turbines.
