Waubra Wind Farm and the city of Ballarat

Waubrawind_ballaret_thumb Australia's Waubra Wind Farm, erected by Acciona Wind, is the largest wind facility in the southern hemisphere with 128 turbines and 192 megawatts capacity. The project consumes 173 square kilometers or 43,000 acres of land located 35 kilometers (nearly 22 miles) from the City of Ballaret shown in the foreground of the image. Commissioned in September 2009, the project has been plagued by news reports of noise disturbance.

Australian Simulation

Phpthumb_thumb Otago Daily Times: the computer-enhanced photograph isn’t altogether a joke. Huge turbines exactly like this their height and size shown in correct context and scale could soon dominate the landscape in inland Otago. Meridian Energy, through its Project Hayes, wants to put 176 such windmills, each 160m high, on the Lammermoor range behind Middlemarch; and TrustPower hopes to erect at least 100, slightly smaller, nearby on the Lammerlaw Range.

Woolnorth Wind Plant

Thumbnail.asp_thumb Stretching up 135m from base to tip, the V90 turbine tower is the biggest in Australia, a massive structure that weighs in at 400 tonnes when complete. Twenty-five towers are being erected at Studland Bay to complete the second stage of Roaring 40s' Woolnorth wind farm.
