The wind farm will be capable of supplying clean electricity to around 140,000 homes.

Applicant Centrica already has permission for two 30-turbine wind farms to be built four miles off the Lincolnshire coast later this year.

It is estimated the project will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 570 tonnes a year.

The company said it had completed a full environmental impact assessment for the latest proposed wind farm site.

Power from the offshore wind farm would come ashore in north Norfolk via undersea power cables.

If it gets the go ahead, building work could start in 2009.
