People across Mid Wales are fighting against plans for massive wind farms which would see 300ft masts towering into the air, countryside bosses have warned.
People across Mid Wales are fighting against plans for massive wind farms which would see 300ft masts towering into the air, countryside bosses have warned.
A meeting was called by the Council for the Protection of Rural Wales’ (CPRW) Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire branches, who said their shires would be the most strongly affected by current proposals.
CPRW campaigner Ann West said new wind farms proposed for the region by the Welsh Assembly’s technical advice note 8 would impose too much on the existing landscape.
And at the meeting in the Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells, she said wind turbines could be built twice as high as current masts.
Plans for Powys included a ‘wind park’ of 10 turbines, each 347ft high, along with some solar power, near Llanfair Caereinion. “This is in an area where they have already fought off a wind farm, so it’s a bitter blow for them,” said Mrs West.
