Some call them majestic, others an eyesore. While opinions about them vary, wind farms are becoming increasingly common. Wind farms can be identified by their windmill-like turbines that use wind power to create electricity.

Due to the national energy debate, alternate forms of energy are increasingly desirable. US Wind Force LLC, a Wexford-based company, is right at the center of this discussion, which grows more passionate each time energy costs increase.
As Americans look for ways to cut corners on heat and at the pump, while looking to reduce dependence on foreign sources of energy, wind energy is an increasingly viable option, say supporters.

US Wind Force LLC has been in operation in the Wexford area since 2000.
Since its inception, the company has established two permitted locations for wind farms. Both locations are out of state.
While the land has been set aside, the turbines have yet to be built.
Bayrd, W. Va., will be home to US Windforce's Mount Storm location. It is permitted for 166 turbines and up to 250 megawatts of power. Meanwhile, Allegany County., Md., will soon be the location for the Savage Mountain wind farm, which is permitted for up to 25 turbines, or 40 megawatts of power. US Wind Force hopes to begin construction on these locations shortly.
The company is in the process of obtaining approval for an additional location in West Virginia, and it would also consider plans for wind farms in Western Pennsylvania, said James M. Cookman, the company's vice president for project development.
While some are skeptical, Cookman also spoke about the benefits of wind energy. "When you look at our current energy needs and dependence on foreign oil, we clearly need to look at other sources," said Cookman. "Wind is just one of those many resources, but it is a proven technology. The cost of the power is competitive with coal, and it is clean, as clean as you can get. We believe it is right for our country's future."
US Wind Force LLC is located at 10592 Perry Highway, Wexford.
