WOODWARD, Okla. — A wind turbine caught fire Tuesday morning near Woodward, Oklahoma.
The fire was reported about 10 miles north and 2 miles east of Woodward. KOCO 5 Storm Tracker Shane Helton, who was on the scene, said it also sparked a grass fire nearby.
Firefighters from multiple agencies, including Woodward and Mooreland fire departments, responded and extinguished the fire.
A cause is under investigation.
The turbine that caught fire appears to be one of the 66 Siemens 2.3 MW (152 MW in total) wind turbines included in the Keenen II wind facility sited in Woodward County, Oklahoma and operational since December 2010.
