AES Corp. has begun construction on one of the nation´s largest wind farms near Abilene, Texas.


AES Corp. has begun construction on one of the nation´s largest wind farms near Abilene, Texas.

The Buffalo Gap 2 project is an expansion of the company´s 121-megawatt Buffalo Gap wind farm. The expansion will result in a wind farm with the capacity to produce 233 megawatts of electricity. Houston-based Direct Energy, a subsidiary of Centrica plc, has signed a 10-year power purchase agreement with AES to buy all of the output from the wind farm.

The Buffalo Gap wind farm will have the capacity to generate enough electricity to power about 100,000 Texas homes
