A bid to stop a wind farm project on King Island has returned to the Federal Court in Hobart.

The No Tas Wind Farm group claims Hydro Tasmania did not have broad community support for its $2 billion project and it should not go ahead.

Today's hearing has begun with legal argument over the payment of compensation and damages, if the group were to be successful in its court bid.

Hydro's lawyer argues damages can not be claimed under Australian consumer laws.
