Bird Group Watches For Dangerous Wind Projects

Currently, only one project is strongly opposed by Blue Mountain because of concerns for birds. It's called Windy Point, in Klickitat County in south-central Washington.

Wind turbines are sprouting like weeds on the hills of the Northwest.

There's a group of bird-lovers that keeps a watchful eye on where the blades spin.

The Blue Mountain Audubon Society of Walla Walla, Washington, supports wind power because it's a clean, renewable source of energy. But the group wants developers to keep turbines out of the path of birds migrating south from Canada.

Mike Denny of the Blue Mountain society says that most wind project companies in the Northwest are cooperative.

They comply with the club's request to consider wildlife when choosing where to put the turbines.
