Save Our Allegheny Ridges (SOAR) has learned that two industrial wind energy projects proposed for central Pennsylvania have been shelved. Officials from Iberdrola Renewables Inc., of Portland, Ore., confirmed that the company has terminated the Dunning Mountain Wind project in Bedford County and the Clover Run Wind project in Clearfield County.
Over 40 industrial wind turbines were slated for construction in the Clover Run project, located between Grampian and Luthersburg, in Clearfield County.
Iberdrola had planned to build another 24 industrial wind turbines on Dunning and Evitt's Mountains in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Many residents of the Dutch Corner Rural Historic District, which includes Evitt's Mountain, were concerned that industrial energy development along the ridgeline would severely compromise the qualities that contribute to the district's significance as one of the few rural historic districts in Pennsylvania. The Dutch Corner area was awarded the "rural historic district" designation by the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission's Bureau for Historic Preservation in 2007, due to the outstanding integrity of its rural landscape.
