Makara wind farm hearing underway

Radio New Zealand|June 26, 2006
Australia / New ZealandGeneral

An environment court panel looking at a proposed windfarm at the remote Wellington community of Makara has visited the area.

The windfarm could produce enough power for 110,000 homes. The court originally ruled this was in the national interest and the farm should go ahead.

However, nine appeals mainly from local residents have returned the issue to the court. The hearing has been set down for two weeks.
