Wind farm near Kingman clears hurdle

KINGMAN, Ariz. A proposed wind energy facility near Kingman received approvals from Mohave County planners.

That clears the way for installation of the state's first commercial wind farm once county Supervisors sign off on the decision.

The county Planning and Rezoning Commission allowed heavy industrial use for the 800-acre site southwest of Kingman near a steel plant.

In April, Western Wind Energy won approval for two tests towers.

The 200-foot tall wind turbines together can provide electricity for about 75-hundred homes.
