The 21 November incident occurred 200 metres from a residential community and prompted an official inquiry by the local authorities, which could lead to lawsuit being take out against the firm, local newspaper Diario do Nordeste first reported. The investigation is expected to take 10 days.

Marcelo Picchi, director of Siif, told New Energy Finance that the turbine was under warrantee and would be replaced by Suzlon. "The manufacturer is reviewing the wind farm's remaining turbines to make sure this does not happen again and will furnish us with a report detailing what went wrong," he said.

Siif has four commissioned wind farms with an aggregate installed capacity of 208MW. The Ceara-based firm is currently awaiting authorisation to commence construction on its 134MW Quintanilha Machado project in Rio de Janeiro.
