The village of Clayton planning board is taking steps towards developing a wind farm in the town of Clayton.

"I myself think it's a good thing, it's helping us become independent in the energy field," said Clayton town councilman Donald Turcotte.

Turcotte has been a town of Clayton councilman for about ten years now.

"A wind farm would be beneficial for the town of clayton, especially for its people," said Turcotte.

Turcotte said having a wind farm, like the one in Lewis County would be a good source of income for the town; but, Turcotte says, he has some concerns.

"There are several things I'm concerned about, this is a pretty valuable piece of property down through here, we're not sure what effect it might have on its value," Turcotte said.

According to Turcotte, if it were to be built, the wind farm would be in an area of higher elevation, possibly near Depauville.

Before any decision is made, Turcotte plans to ask plenty of questions to the village planning board.

"They are asking for some time to consider this into getting this into a law to govern what restrictions would be involved in it and so forth," said Turcotte.

The village planning board is expected to ask the town board for a moratorium at its next meeting April 26.
