Demand full hearings on wind turbine safety

After listening to all the comments presented and after reading articles and editorials on the internet, I have come to the conclusion that this process is moving way too fast. ...Please deny this request and force Dan's Mountain Windforce LLC to full, open hearings on the merits of its proposal. If their proposal is viable and safe, then it will withstand "... the interests of the people" and their full inspection of it.

I attended the Jan. 22 Public Service Commission Hearing in Dunkle Hall's Room 218 at Frostburg State University. After listening to all the comments presented and after reading articles and editorials on the internet, I have come to the conclusion that this process is moving way too fast.

What this "exemption from obtaining a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity" does is take away due process protections from the citizens of Allegany County.

Legitimate questions were raised in this hearing concerning emergency communications capabilities, impact to the environment and protected wildlife species, aesthetics, safety and the loss of recreation land.

We have the right to question the safety of this proposal through fair hearings, open meetings and public discourse. This exemption denies that.

One of the mandates of the PSC is to assure that "safe, reliable, and economical public services are provided to Maryland residents." With this proposed exemption, can you guarantee that the "safe" mandate is being met? If a communications tower is unable to communicate with the Maryland State Police, that becomes a public safety issue.

With this proposed exemption, can you guarantee that the "safe" mandate is being met? If a communications tower is unable to communicate with the Maryland State Police, that becomes a public safety issue.

Where in the Dan's Mountain Windforce LLC proposal did they guarantee that these communications towers would not be affected? Where in their proposal did they cover the impact on water runoff when they strip out trees and build roads into each of these 25 (or 29) wind turbines?

Where did they provide for the protection of the three Maryland endangered species mentioned in the public comments?

Certainly, every intelligent person understands the need to correct our current reliance on foreign oil and the mandate to our governments to move forward in correcting this, but not at the risk of suffocating its citizen's rights.

Thomas Jefferson said "No man has a natural right to commit aggression on the equal rights of another, and this is all from which the laws ought to restrain him." With your interpretation of this law, you have the ability to stop this aggression on our rights and allow for open hearings.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt said "The only sure bulwark of continuing liberty is a government strong enough to protect the interests of the people, and a people strong enough and well enough informed to maintain its sovereign control over the government."

With this decision, you represent the government --you are the government; not some exemption or exclusion or governor's / legislator's revision. You are the interpreter of the law.

Please deny this request and force Dan's Mountain Windforce LLC to full, open hearings on the merits of its proposal. If their proposal is viable and safe, then it will withstand "... the interests of the people" and their full inspection of it.
