Need to elect political leadership willing to represent all the people

County officials in other states have been flat out turning down industrial wind development, mostly because they took the time to understand how huge wind turbines would negatively affect their region–unlike our officials who simply signed on the dotted line, even asking for an expedited approval without having the normal evaluation period.

Free education for Garrett County residents? What a wonderful idea! However, to associate this type of program with money generated from wind turbines is simply a way for our county officials to camouflage their initial support of and present partnership with the wind industry.

County officials in other states have been flat out turning down industrial wind development, mostly because they took the time to understand how huge wind turbines would negatively affect their region–unlike our officials who simply signed on the dotted line, even asking for an expedited approval without having the normal evaluation period.

Huge wind turbines will not reduce pollution or the mining of fossil fuels. Wind turbine development does have a negative impact on property values and certainly has a negative impact on the rural mountainous landscape that makes Garrett County special.

So as spring approaches–along with the possibility that Garrett County's mountains will be checkered with 400'-tall wind machines that have no real benefit except to their investors–I hope our county officials are proud of the questionable legacy they might leave for future generations of Garrett County residents.
