Senate hearings on offshore windpower plan begin Thursday, Feb. 7

The Senate Energy and Transit Committee will be holding a series of hearings aimed at answering questions that have gone unaddressed during the request-for-proposals process that led to the now-tabled contract between Bluewater Wind and Delmarva Power for an offshore wind farm. Five hearings are scheduled.


The Senate Energy and Transit Committee will be holding a series of hearings aimed at answering questions that have gone unaddressed during the request-for-proposals process that led to the now-tabled contract between Bluewater Wind and Delmarva Power for an offshore wind farm.

Five hearings are scheduled. A public comment period and testimony from groups including Clean Air Council, League of Women Voters, Sierra Club of Delaware, Littoral Society and Clean Ocean Council will be Thursday, Feb. 7. The committee will hear an overview of the process and procedure that has taken place since the initial request for proposals, including testimony from the Public Service Commission and the Public Advocate Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Bluewater Wind and Delmarva Power will give presentations Tuesday, Feb. 26, when the committee learns about technology, resources and alternatives and hears analyses of Bluewater's proposal as well as alternatives Delmarva Power has eyed. A cost-and-risk analysis of Bluewater's bid will be presented to the committee Wednesday, Feb. 27, including testimony from consultants and others.

In the final hearing Wednesday, March 5, the committee will learn about emerging technology, including onshore wind and solar power. It will also hear from the Delaware Energy Office, DuPont and others. The committee will issue a report and recommendations after the hearings are concluded.
