Description:

A blade at the Shabbona wind energy facility appears to have exploded into hundreds of pieces in this photo. NextEra, who owns the turbine, called the incident unusual. NextEra erected and operates the 145 industrial turbines spread between DeKalb and Lee Counties in Illinois. Sources in DeKalb County have informed Windaction.org that the incident occurred during a powerful lightning storm.
