Regarding the current public dialogue about wind power, the residents of Vermont need to recognize the fact that wind power, while wonderful and green, is not reliable.
Reliable electric power means that it will be available when called upon, what is called "baseline availability."
In the midst of next summer, when the demand for electricity is nearly off the scale, the residents of Vermont will expect reliable reserves of power.
Given that demand, are our wind power advocates willing to wager on next summer's average wind speed?
Simply, Vermont must either upgrade its transmission grid, in order to efficiently distribute, and when necessary, bring out-of-state electricity into Vermont, or, invest in in-state baseline generation; new hydro, and/or new burn plants.
I challenge all readers to choose the best alternative and respond via this public forum.
