Blowing in the wind
Waitsfield voters may be asked to make a decision about changing the Town Plan before Citizens' Energy has completed its environmental studies, and that would be wrong. The environmental studies for this project need to come first before any changes to the Town Plan are made.

As Waitsfield and The Valley begin to assess the merits of a proposal to install 15 to 24 wind turbines on the Northfield Ridge, there are many hard questions that must be answered.
Project proponent Citizens' Energy will pursue its own studies on wind capacity and the ability of the grid to accept the new energy. Citizens' Energy is also waiting for a sign from Waitsfield as to whether the Town Plan will be amended to allow a wind farm above 1,700 feet on the currently undeveloped Northfield Ridge.
