FPL's Waymart wind facility imported one employee for its only local job. Once established on a formerly pristine Moosic Mountain ridge of Northeastern Penn., FPL quietly attempted to avoid paying real estate and school taxes on its $65 million investment. A belatedly aroused public successfully quashed FPL's backhanded move. Needless-to-say, FPL Energy's much ballyhooed tourism appeal for its Waymart wind Facility never materialized here.

What is it really like living in the shadow of FPL's 43-wind turbine facility?

Its rotors cast an annoying fluttering shadow for miles over this residential community for hours before the end of an otherwise pleasant day. FPL's "wind fence" has obliterated the television and radio reception that was formerly enjoyed in a five-mile square area of this community.

When FPL's wind turbines rotate they emit an uneasy unnatural noise day and night over the community. And despite the assurances that wind turbine operation is fail-safe by arguably qualified expert wind proponents like Dave Lamont of Vermont Public Service, proponents of the Waymart wind facility were forced to admit that its wind turbines had released some of the tens of thousands of polluting hazardous materials they contain into our otherwise potable community groundwater.

Each wind turbine has disturbed over 40 acres of terrain that are now unfit for other use. FPL has closed the six-mile stretch of its wind facility property to public access.
