With regard to renewable energy, the attitude of the Assembly Government once again never ceases to amaze me. Jane Davidson, minister for environment, sustainability and housing, was in favour of the proposed Swansea Bay tidal lagoon project. Great, I thought. At last someone in the Assembly is getting the message about the need for predictability of energy supplies to the Grid network.
Then Ms Davidson backpedalled and stressed she was toeing the line drawn in the sand by AMs Andrew Davies and Rhodri Morgan. She says the lagoon has not been built anywhere else in the world. So what?
The renowned consultants W S Atkins studied the proposals and gave it the thumbs up. Why not build the lagoon as the prototype for a swathe around Wales?
Instead, the Assembly Government is obsessed with the totally discredited, useless wind farm technology. In contrast, the highly predictable, reliable tidal power would be a very attractive carbon-free commodity on the electricity spot price market indeed. What on earth are we waiting for?
