A LEGAL challenge is being mounted to stop the controversial £50 million wind farm development at Scout Moor.
The huge structures would tower over Blyth and the surrounding countryside and create a major new landmark on the region's skyline.

State Rep. Phil Montgomery (R-Ashwaubenon), chairman of the Assembly Energy and Utilities Committee, said Thursday that he isn't opposed to expansion of renewable power but called on Doyle to include nuclear power in the state's energy mix.
He said a target of 25% for the state's power could be difficult to attain and could be costly to electric ratepayers if they are mandated.
Despite advances in renewable technology, wind turbines don't rotate when the wind doesn't blow, and solar panels aren't effective when the sun's not shining, Montgomery said.

CARRABASSETT VALLEY -- Maine's Land Use Regulation Commission has scheduled a three-day public hearing in August on a petition to rezone land in northern Franklin County for a commercial wind power facility.
SAVOY — A proposal under consideration from the Planning Board would limit the height of wind turbines to 350 feet, although the regulation might not impact the five 420-foot turbines that a developer wants to build near Harwood Road.
"(Wind turbines) don't move fast, but they have this constant 'thump, thump thump,' " Lovejoy said. "Obviously, the closer you are to them the more potentially annoying it is. The sound is sort of like when someone is drilling. You can put up with that for a few days, but at some point. ..."

GE is working with the Energy Department to develop more powerful wind turbines, look at hydrogen fuels and research cleaner ways to use coal for power, said GE spokesman Peter O'Toole.
"We're a contractor of choice for the government because of the work that we do and the breadth of the company," he said.
But Mr Kennedy is not the only politician in the state who objects to the plan. Mitt Romney, the Republican governor considering a run for his party's presidential nomination in 2008, is against the wind farm. So too are most candidates running to succeed Mr Romney, including Tom Reilly, Massachusetts' Democratic attorney-general.
