CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine -- A public hearing begins Wednesday in western Maine on a proposal for a wind farm with three wind turbines on two mountains near the Sugarloaf/USA ski resort.
EUREKA -- Woodford County Conservation, Planning & Zoning Committee, will hear a wind farm presentation at 6 p.m. Aug. 7 at Roanoke/Benson Junior High School, Benson.
Once the royal hunting forest of Angus and patronised by the royalty and nobility of Scotland, Montreathmont Moor Forest is now the site of a proposed wind farm. The wind farm will be built in the middle of ancient woodland. At present it is difficult to calculate the loss of ancient woodland, as it is not clear in the plans exactly how much will be lost to the turbines, cabling and access.
With the goal of advancing the wind farm/wind energy dialogue beyond the spin stage, Harwich Oracle sister publication The Cape Codder is sponsoring a roundtable discussion with key players in the Cape Wind debate and is conducting an online poll to gauge the opinions of Cape Codders. Cape Wind proposes to develop a 130-turbine wind farm for Horseshoe Shoal, in Nantucket Sound.

The Ridgeville recall effort began in May after some residents complained the current board was not representing them. They held a meeting at the town hall and selected Luethe, Krueger and Giraud as their candidates.
The effort stems from controversy in the area over plans for an industrial “wind farm” that would place 35-story-high wind turbines along the ridge.

CHERRY VALLEY — By a 2-to-1 vote Monday night, the Cherry Valley Town Board opted not to institute a 12-month moratorium on major development.
The vote clears the way for the town’s Planning Board to consider a $100 million proposal by Reunion Power of Manchester, Vt., to erect 24 wind turbines on East Hill.
The board’s vote came at the end of an emotionally charged public hearing in the town garage attended by more than 200 people and lasting longer than 3½ hours. The town’s two councilmen, Fabian Bressett and James Johnson, voted against the moratorium, while Supervisor Tom Garretson voted for it, Garretson said late Monday night.

Renewable Energy Services Ltd. said yesterday it has made a deal with Nova Scotia Power Inc. to sell a total of 6.4 megawatts to its parent company Emera Inc. for $1.4 million per year. That means RESL will likely build five new turbines in addition to the four it already has.
