Antrim Town Administrator Galen Stearns said that the wind developer's attorney drafted the motion for rehearing, and it was sent back and forth several times between Geiger and the town for modifications. ...He added that having Geiger draft the appeal was an attempt to speed up the process. Geiger drafted the PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) agreement that was also signed by the town.
The decision on the part of the Marshall County Board of Commissioners was unanimous. The passage of the ban drew a standing ovation from the crowd, and came some two years after a Florida based company proposed building up to 70-wind turbines in southern Marshall and Northern Fulton Counties.
The applications had opposition from Scottish Natural Heritage and the Mountaineering Council of Scotland.
SNH claimed the windfarms would impact "an area of the strongest wild land character - as confirmed by the wildness mapping work carried out" by the Government agency.

Its operator hopes to file an application with the Ohio Power Siting Board early this summer and begin construction by the end of the year. Commercial operations would then begin in the summer or fall of 2014. Construction would have to begin this year for the operator to take advantage of a federal tax credit, unless it is renewed for next year.
Cheshire-based Renewable Solutions UK submitted the application on behalf of the landowners to South Ribble Council, but have now pulled the plug on the scheme before it reached the planning committee.
More than 100 letters of objection were sent to the council about the proposal, but two residents wrote in support of the idea.
Dank said the wind tax credits, among the most costly issued by state government, benefit some companies that are selling the power they generate to other states.
"The Oklahoma taxpayers are being asked to subsidize electric customers in Tennessee and Alabama," he said.

Under the existing permit, the company has to prove it can fund all aspects of the project by July. An extension would give the company until May 2014 to do so.
Edison Mission Energy, a financial partner on the project, filed for bankruptcy in December.
Residents of Owls Hollow Road gathered Saturday to share their opinion on the proposed wind farm on Lookout Mountain by Austin, Texas-based Pioneer Green Energy.
Their opinion was simple and to the point - not here, not now, not ever.
There has also been a resurgence of cheap coal, considered a dirtier energy source, abetted by a market failure in the European carbon emission trade.
An oversupply in the right-to-pollute certificates has seen their price fall from an envisioned 15-18 euros per tonne of CO2 to just two to three euros -- making coal plants an economically attractive option once more.

According to the project's final EIS, the geographic limits of the Grand Canyon condor population as determined by FWS overlap the project's proposed footprint. Condor can fly up to 160 miles a day in searching for food, and the Grand Canyon "experimental" population is well within that range of the Mohave County Wind Farm.

A peer-reviewed article in the official journal of the College of Family Physicians of Canada says its members should expect to see increasing numbers of rural patients reporting adverse effects from exposure to industrial wind turbines.
The commentary, published in the May issue of Canadian Family Physician, says turbines can harm human health if built too close to where people live.
