Parks Canada says it's conducting a technical assessment of the power grid to determine the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly approach to generating energy on the 40-kilometre island.
Julie Tompa, project manager for the Sable Island National Park Reserve, said it's possible the turbines could be scrapped, depending on the results of that assessment.

China Longyuan Power Group would not submit a final offer in an auction for a stake in Boco Rock Wind Farm, a person familiar with the matter said.

Two members of the public grilled the town's Selectboard on Tuesday with questions about the planning commission and a meeting between the board's chairman and a representative from an energy company constructing a test tower.
A large group with plenty of opinions on both sides of Vermilion County's wind turbine issue turned out Monday night for a public forum.
The crowd of both onlookers and speakers filled the expanse of bleachers along the southern wall of the gymnasium at Potomac Grade School. More than 40 speakers - 37 from Vermilion County - signed up to step to the podium.

Matt Putman, of Neighbors for a Responsible North East, said the proposed setbacks are insufficient and are less than some turbine manufacturers recommend. Turbines should be at least 1,300 feet from roads and property lines and more than a mile from any neighborhood to reduce potential noise and "shadow flicker," he said.

While the zoning board voted on findings last week, the wind farm's attorney, Doug Lee, and company officials sat silently. So did opponents.
Today, Keith Bolin of Mainstream and Rick Porter, a Rockford attorney representing wind farm opponents, are on the agenda.
For more than two hours Monday, the Howard County Commissioners heard from local and Tipton County residents opposed to wind farm development.
The commissioners were asked to impose a moratorium on permitting or accepting new applications for the placement of wind farms in Howard County.

The town will not settle a lawsuit filed by three Mount Waldo property owners that challenges Frankfort's recently adopted wind energy ordinance after residents voted against a consent order to resolve the suit late last month at the annual town meeting.
The company's shares, which had spiked to a near six-month high of 49.95 crowns as recently as late March, fell as much as 5 percent and closed down 2.8 percent against a 0.8 percent fall in the Copenhagen stock exchange benchmark index.
"It is a problem for Vestas in the short term because the shares trade on confidence, not on fundamentals."

The Department of the Interior may have recently approved the Searchlight Wind Project, but those who stand to benefit most from the project are politicians and well-connected campaign donors, and not the people of Searchlight.
"People from other communities told us, ‘you don't want [wind turbines],'" said Sandy Walters, chairwoman of the Searchlight Town Advisory Board. "We tried telling that to BLM and Duke Energy, too."
Rhona Weir, now in her 90s, accused developers of defacing the Kilpatrick Hills beside the house she shared with her husband, who shot to fame presenting outdoor TV programme Weir's Way in the late 1970s.
However, her stance has put her at odds with others in the local community.
