PERU — Peru officials have approved a one-year moratorium on allowing windmills to be constructed within town limits.
Town Council members unanimously approved the ban, citing the need to study the issue before making any more-permanent zoning decisions.

Planning Board President Héctor Morales Vargas announced Monday the agency has left without effect the approval of the location consultation for the construction of an eolic or wind energy plant in Guayanilla.
While the Planning Board approved Windmar Renewable Energy Inc.'s location consultation in May of this year, several groups who opposed the project ...requested a revision of consultation number 2006-61-0536-JPU.
To meet the nation’s fast-growing demand for electricity, utilities are planning to string thousands of miles of high-voltage power lines across the USA in a building frenzy that could mar some of the country’s most precious open spaces.
The largest crop of transmission-line projects since the 1970s initially would deliver inexpensive, surplus electricity — much of it coal-generated — from the Midwest and Northwest to more densely populated urban centers along the East Coast and western Sunbelt. Eventually, other parts of the country could be crisscrossed by networks that begin to resemble the vast interstate highway system.
