Meaford Council to wind developers: You're not welcome here
June 26, 2012 by Stephen Vance in Meaford Independent
June 26, 2012 by Stephen Vance in Meaford Independent
“Now Therefore, regardless of the undemocratic terms of Ontario Bill 150, be it resolved that the Council of the Municipality of Meaford confirms that it is not desirous of any Industrial Wind turbine development within our corporation, and requests that developers of wind farms do not submit further applications within our municipal boundaries,” read the resolution.
If you had neighbours either side of your apartment or your house and they played loud music 24 hours a day, would that make you sick? And you can ring the police and get them to turn it off. I can't ring the police and get them to turn a wind turbine off if it makes me sick.

Australia is not alone in questioning the political cost and economic value of a decade-long rush towards green power.
As the financial crisis continues in Europe it would be easy to conclude the developed world's infatuation with heavily subsidising renewable energy had peaked. ...Wind energy companies are abandoning Spain after the government killed off generous subsidy schemes that had spawned a modern-day gold rush in renewables.

"The 2km separation distance comes from the Scottish Planning Policy. The 2km distance is the separation distance between areas of search and the edge of cities, towns and villages; it is to guide developments to the most appropriate sites and to reduce visual impact. It can also be used in dealing with visual impact from individual turbines.

June 20, 2012 by Jaegun Lee in Watertown Daily Times
Because industrial commercial turbine operations "have health and safety impacts on people," Cape Vincent's draft law reads, these concerns "must be addressed with adequate setbacks for ice throw, rotor failure, shadow flicker, and noise."

Jerry Tackley, the board's chairman, said the advice that he had received from the town's attorney was that a long-form environmental assessment from the state Department of Environmental Conservation was necessary. The requirement stems from the town's law banning private wind turbines, passed in 2010.

More than 60 wind farms have sprung up across Australia in the last decade.
Giant white propellers scattered across hilltops around the country.
But some people that live close to these farms are saying they're ruing their lives.
As for the non-binding straw poll that asked if voters support the construction of wind farms within the town limits of Peru, 194 said Yes; 394 said No.
That means the Peru Wind Power Committee will now make recommendations to selectmen about pursuing more restrictive measures.

Gusse proposed the board cap the number of turbines in the county - something that wouldn't affect current permits.

Keppel Prince general manager Steve Garner said wind farm construction had stalled across Australia, largely due to a design flaw in federal legislation setting a target of about 20 per cent of electricity from renewable sources by 2020.
The market for renewable energy certificates created through clean projects has been flooded with credits from rooftop solar panels.
