According to Canadian Renewable Energy Corp., three to four barrels of diesel fuel were spilled around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. The fuel was being transferred between tanks on Sea Hound, a vessel operated by Nadro Marine Services Ltd., a contractor based in Port Drove, Ontario. Nadro Marine has been transporting wind turbines from Ogdensburg for the 86-turbine Wolfe Island Wind Project. ...Mark O. Mattson, president of the Lake Ontario Waterkeeper, an environmental advocacy group based in Toronto, finds the incident ironic.
"It's a bit of a shock. The whole purpose of the wind power project was to help the environment," he said.

"Last month there was a controlled fire that got out of control pretty quickly," Jablonicky said. "By 3 o'clock we lost visual sight of one turbine and another turbine shut down. They have built in detectors, and the fire got pretty large. Our guys called the fire department and to their credit James' crew arrived and dealt with the fire pretty quickly," Mike said. " If we had men up in those towers, it could have been disastrous.

The issue of wind turbines in Chatham-Kent continues to linger.
Council put off the issue of setbacks at its May 5 meeting and asked the health unit for more information about the devices.
Council has already approved a wind turbine project in the Port Alma area, but is looking to establish a policy in anticipation of future applications for turbines.
The municipality has the potential to be host to 250 turbines.

Oregon Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley plan to put holds on three Obama administration defense nominees Friday, including two with an environmental bent, upping the ante in a dispute over Air Force concerns about wind energy farms interfering with radar signals.
Those concerns have stalled construction of the Shepherds Flat wind farm in north-central Oregon.

The citations followed an investigation at the Iberdrola Streator Cayuga Ridge South Wind Farm near Odell. The company, a servicing and maintenance provider in the wind tower industry, faces proposed penalties of $378,000.
White Construction officials are still trying to determine what went wrong at the site, and OSHA was at the scene Wednesday conducting an investigation that could last two weeks to six months.

Ottawa city commissioners Tuesday put the brakes on an agreement to expand an enterprise zone to include a wind energy farm south of the city.
In September, Chicago-based Invenergy asked the city to expand its enterprise zone that now stretches from Ottawa to Grundy County to include about 225 acres for a 66-turbine wind farm south of Ottawa. The turbines will be erected in Brookfield, Allen and Grand Rapids townships. ...for two commissioners, the crux of the arrangement entailed another part of the agreement.
"I'm not in favor in that Grand Ridge (Energy) has asked the Ottawa Fire Department to provide emergency response services," said Ed Whitney, commissioner of public health and safety. "I know they're giving us a lot of money but I think we're selling ourselves out."
The 45-metre turbine came a cropper on Monday when the transporter carrying it through the county toppled off the main A696, two miles south of Otterburn.
Police closed the road for recovery and repair, leaving village traders fuming, and counting their losses.

A wind tower column from DMI Industries in West Fargo that was being hauled on a semitrailer flatbed clipped the underside of an Interstate 94 overpass just east of this city, damaging it.
No one was hurt, but traffic was disrupted while the mess was cleaned up, the Highway Patrol said. ...The impact about 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the westbound lanes scattered chunks of concrete across the road, damaging at least nine vehicles. The damage ranged from flat tires to punctured radiators, authorities said.
