Suzlon Energy Ltd. filed its complaint against Big Sky earlier this year claiming Big Sky improperly refused to make a prepayment for turbines supplied to Big Sky. The Ohio-based wind farm bought 114 Suzlon turbines in October 2009 for the Big Sky project.

The firm that operates the recently built California Ridge Wind Farm in Vermilion and Champaign counties said it is looking into how a wind turbine's blade broke on Tuesday night.
Chicago-based Invenergy LLC released a statement Wednesday, saying that one of the wind farm's 134 turbines "experienced a broken blade last night" but how the damage occurred was not immediately known.

"One of the blades looks like it has peeled back and wilted over, and there is debris lying around the base of the turbine," the witness said in the email. "Part of the blade that came down is laying a distance away from the base in the field."

Last month, the airport board authorized him to write a letter expressing his concerns about Ireland-based Mainstream Renewable Power's plan for a wind farm near Deer Grove, population 48, which is 11 miles south of Rock Falls.
If wind turbines are allowed under that ordinance, tens of thousands of acres of farmland may become untreatable, he said. That's because the planes need enough room to safety navigate and make turns, he said.
If wind turbines go up, companies that contract for farmers' crops may move production elsewhere, Cady warned.
Stengel said broken blades occur occasionally with one happening in May 2010. The blade was removed in the last 1½ weeks. It shattered in mid-March.

The technician suffered third-degree burns in the accident at the Iberdrola Streator Cayuga Ridge South Wind Farm near Odell, Ill. An investigation by OSHA found Outland didn't ensure technicians placed locks and tags on ground-level switches. A worker flipped a switch, energizing a transformer while the technician was working 350 feet above.

Jessi Creasey, 16, and her passenger, Dani Creasey, 13, were traveling westbound on Empire when a support car with a wind-turbine transportation company traveling eastbound apparently knocked down some low-hanging wires. The support car and semi stopped a safe distance away, said officials with the Bloomington Police Department.
Last year a weak tornado touch-downed near Holder in eastern McLean county. Officials at NextEra Energy Resources aren't sure what caused one of the three blades on a wind turbine south of the village of Shabbona to fail Friday morning. The 131-foot-long blade hung from the top of the turbine Friday, apparently bent at the base and split along its length.

A semitrailer was damaged Monday morning when it struck a 170-foot wind turbine blade being hauled on Illinois Route 130 on the north side of Charleston.

When the Bureau County Board voted to exclude a certain type of wind turbine from consideration for seven Walnut Ridge sites, the company was understandably concerned. ...On Nov. 17, Suzlon issued a statement regarding the S88. According to the statement, the problem with the S88 near Buda was with the V2 version, which has since been replaced with the V3 version.

A falling blade from a wind turbine near Wyanet in Bureau County last week has resulted in some fears, but one area school says there is no need to worry.
The blade was 140 feet long and weighed 6 tons. Fortunately, it landed in a corn field and there were no injuries or damage to property.
The Sherrard School District has just erected a wind turbine at its junior high and high school campus in lower Rock Island County, but there is no connection to the one that broke in Wyanet last Wednesday.
Lisa Linowes, executive director of the group, said the failure in Wyanet is evidence that wind energy isn't as safe as its proponents claim.
"This whole thing about safety worries us a lot," she said. "In the last year, there have been at least 15 cases, and those are just cases that have been reported."

A wind turbine blade came crashing to the ground Wednesday, halting energy production at a small-scale wind farm southwest of Wyanet because of what may be a defective design.
In all, four turbines on Richard Shertz's property - all part of the AgriWind facility in central Bureau County - have stopped turning after a blade on top of one of the towers broke off about 9:30 a.m.
"It was the loudest noise I've ever heard," he said. "I thought it was thunder."

Shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday, a rotating blade on a wind turbine at Schertz's farm broke off, plunging to the earth in a cornfield about 150 feet west of the turbine. ...The spokesperson said the investigation into this turbine had just started, but the company was in the middle of a blade retrofit program across the United States to correct an "unfortunate" design issue in the first generation of this blade.
