Guy Glencross hates the sight and sound of his new ‘neighbour' - a 20-metre wind turbine, 90 metres from the front door of his rural Co Tyrone home.

Wet snow on turbine blades during windy conditions caused the roaring sound that drew complaints about the Lowell wind turbines on Nov. 3 and 4.
The noise, which at least 21 neighbors described as unbearable, began early in the morning of Saturday, Nov. 3, and continued into the next evening.

In defense of the health and safety of the residents of the Town of Scituate, the wind turbine must be dismantled and relocated to a location at least 1.5 miles from any residential home.
“The lack of sleep affects everything in our lives,” he said. “We often go to work and school tired. It doesn’t matter which way the wind blows. It is on top of us. We hear it all the time. It isn’t a car that drives by. It is parked in our neighborhood 24/7.”
Amaranth Township Council wants a 1.4- kilometre setback for industrial wind turbines based on a report entitled “Effects of Industrial Wind Turbine Noise on Sleep and Health.”
Furthermore, the council is asking for existing wind farms to immediately halt their operations within the 1.4 km of homes and farms.
Those opposed to the Falmouth wind turbines have at least one reason to be grateful this week: The selectmen voted to shut off the two town-owned turbines on Thanksgiving. ...The action will "give a little relief on the holidays" as well as compensate neighbors for moments over a two-week period when the turbines operated outside the agreed-upon time parameters, Murphy said.

The Manitoulin Coalition for Safe Energy Alternatives (MCSEA) has announced it has filed an appeal against the Ministry of Environment's (MOE) Renewable Energy Approval that was granted last month to Northland Power's (NPI) McLean's Mountain wind farm project.
Essex Council voted Monday to withhold support for the Blue Sky wind farm project support in its application for a contract from the Ontario Power Authority.
IPR-GDF Suez Canada had spent five years developing the 46.8 megawatt FIT project in Essex that would have seen 27 wind turbines erected on low density farmland southwest of town around County Road 8.

A spokesperson for McNaughton said the two elected officials want all turbine construction to halt until results of a federal health study on the impacts of turbines has been tabled. ...The spokesman said there is also growing concern about the devaluation of property as a result of the rapid proliferation of wind turbines in Chatham-Kent and throughout southwestern Ontario.
"These things are gutting agricultural communities," Mr Quinn told the rally, adding claims that wind farms boosted regional economies were a "fraud".
"Nobody wants to live near these things," he said.
He urged the protesters to "bombard and shame" their federal MPs into backing the bill.

Frustrated by the wind farm that some residents say drives them "crazy," 60 Middleville, Fairfield and Norway residents have filed a lawsuit in state Supreme Court against the entities responsible for its construction, namely Iberdrola Renewables.

A recently released study of industrial wind turbines in Northern Maine has found they can cause sleep disturbances that result in physical and mental health issues in humans living as far as 4,500 feet away.
The study, published in the September-October issue of Noise and Health, is the first of its kind to be scientifically vetted and approved through the peer-review process.
