The view from some windows in Boston could soon look very different. If you face towards Baumber, near Horncastle, you could be among thousands of people who will have sight of all eight turbines proposed in a controversial wind farm scheme, if it gets the go-ahead. A new survey shows almost everyone living in a 30km radius to the north, west and south of the site - including Boston, Sleaford, and Lincoln - would see the turbines unless another building or trees near their homes happened to impede the view. ..."The turbines are huge. The diameter of the blades is wider than a Jumbo's wings and they are nearly as high as the pillars of the Humber Bridge."

The scale of public opposition to Europe's largest onshore wind farm proposed for the Shetland mainland has been underlined after about 70 campaigners handed in a petition of more than 3600 signatures demanding the plans be scrapped. ...The signatures, representing almost 20% of Shetland's population over the age of 12, were given to Shetland Island Council convenor Sandy Cluness.

NATIONAL security could be compromised by more wind turbines in the Swaffham area, but councillors have been recommended to grant permission. The Ministry of Defence warns the six new giant turbines would have "an unacceptable impact upon the air traffic control radar at RAF Marham and Lakenheath and also against the air defence radar at Trimingham". But Breckland councillors could give the go-ahead on Monday for the turbines to be built on an open farmland site between the A1065 Castleacre Road and Sporle Road in Swaffham and Sporle.

A renewable energy company has applied to change the conditions attached to its controversial wind turbine project at Highburn House in Wooler. Myriad CEG are attempting to remove a condition that obliges them to carry out a survey of television signals in the area.

Andrew Randall lives in King's Dyke, Whittlesey, with his pregnant partner Rachel Barford and one-year-old daughter Aimee, just 100 yards from the towering machine. He said the constant noise from the turning blades is causing sleepless nights and stress for Rachel, who is four months pregnant. Mr Randall (23) said: "Rachel's stressed all the time and she can't cope with the lack of sleep. I'm concerned about the health of the baby. ..."We've got a hot tub in the back garden, but it's a waste because we can't go out there, it's just too noisy."

Several residents feel they are trapped living with the noise because if they tried to move house few people would be interested in buying a property next to a wind turbine. Nick Williams lives at Fullabrook itself with six of the turbines near his house. He claimed the wind farm had destroyed the area he lives in as well as his life.

More than 100 people have signed a petition opposing plans to build four giant wind turbines in countryside near a Northumberland market town. The petition was gathered during a packed public meeting held to drum up support for a protest campaign against green power company Novera Energy's bid to develop the wind farm at Todd Hill, about six kilometres north-west of Morpeth.

Campaigners fighting proposed wind farms in Northumberland last night admitted they fear the floodgates opening after developers apparently overcame MoD objections. The Ministry is in advanced talks with RidgeWind Ltd which could see its objection to that company's scheme for Wandylaw, near Chathill, withdrawn. A public inquiry into the bid resumes on Tuesday when the two sides could reach agreement on a condition which would allow the turbines to be erected.

A couple have won their fight to lower the council tax banding on their property, which dropped in value after wind turbines were built nearby. Julian and Jane Davis, along with their daughter Emily, had to endure endless sleepless nights after a wind farm, with turbines 100 metres high, was built less than 900 metres away from their home. In May 2007, the family abandoned their Deeping St Nicholas home and rented a property in Spalding five miles away. However, the house became un-sellable because of the problems created by the turbines.

Wind turbines earmarked for the roof of two council buildings are an ineffective and expensive publicity stunt, according to residents. ...Ray Farrow, who runs renewable energy company Wind Power Energy, said the officers were using the wrong type of turbines which do not have the power to make a difference to the authority's carbon footprint. Dr Chris Hanning was speaking at a public inquiry ...The consultant in sleep medicine at Leicester General Hospital said noise created by electricity-generating turbines had been proven to adversely affect the heath of people who lived near them.

Government departments responsible for the increase in onshore wind turbines are using staff from energy companies to advise them on noise and safety issues. Concerns have been raised that the potential conflict of interest, denied by the civil servants, could result in the Government making policy decisions which directly benefit turbine manufacturers and energy companies. Guidance on noise issues was sent to planning inspectors as a result of Government meetings which in one case were chaired by a representative of RWE npower.

CAMPAIGNERS against plans for a new wind farm between Bagthorpe, Barmer and Syderstone have been told of the horrific impact turbines can have on village life. A packed public meeting in Bircham Newton heard from a number of guest speakers who gave grave warnings about the health impact, noise disturbances and threat to wildlife which could stem from the five turbines earmarked for the villages. Included among the speakers was Jane Davis, of Deeping St Nicholas, Lincolnshire, who described the persistent noise problems she has faced from a wind farm near her home. She also spoke of how the value of her property has plummeted since the development was completed. Syderstone resident Reg Thompson, a member of the action group formed to oppose the plans, said: "People are very concerned about this. "There are moves being made in Europe to ban wind farms that are within two kilometres of housing and we hope that becomes legislation because every house in Syderstone falls within that radius. "People are very upset. We have seen housing deals fall through as people no longer want to move here.

Night time noise levels from a proposed wind farm near Lutterworth will damage residents' sleep patterns and disrupt their lives, it was claimed at an inquiry on Tuesday. David Havergill, a member of the Institute of Acoustics (IOA), was speaking at the inquiry into whether an energy firm should be allowed to build an 11-turbine wind farm on land between Swinford and Walcote.
